School Attendance
Your child's regular and prompt attendance is crucial to his/her success. Many learning activities are group oriented and involve working with other students. Some work may not be able to be made up at home. Please view school as a priority, and make sure that your child attends school everyday, except in cases of illness or emergency. You may want to review McQuerry's attendance policy. It is explained in detail in the school handbook.
Folders and Backpacks
It is very important that your child bring their backpack and folder to school each day. Their folder will help keep papers, books, and notes organized. Please check and/or empty your child's folder each day. Backpacks are to carry folders, projects, and library books.
Notes to School
When sending notes or lunch money to the teacher, please send them in the "daily take home folder." I will be checking folders each morning upon your child's arrival.
Snacks/Water Bottles
Due to eating during the last lunch shift, students may bring a snack to school each day. They may also bring a water bottle to be kept near their backpack.
Class Newsletter
Every week I will be sending home a class newsletter. I will be letting you know what has been happening in our classroom. I encourage you to read it with your child and ask them questions about what they have been learning.
Parent Participation
Throughout the school year there will be a variety of school and classroom activities. I encourage you to attend these functions when possible. Your support of school activities makes your child feel important. It also sends a message that you value school.
Birthdays
Birthdays are special occasions for your children. If your child wishes, he/she may bring treats for the class on their birthday. Summer birthdays will be celebrated the last week of school. Treats must be pre-packaged. No baked items will be allowed. Please do not send birthday invitations to school unless the entire class has been invited.
Changes in Transportation
Anytime your child is to do something different from their regular after school routine, please send a note or call explaining the change. Hopefully, this will eliminate any confusion your child may feel about these changes.
Homework
I will soon be sending home weekly homework each Monday. Please take the time to complete it daily with your child. Students will be given a special treat upon its completion. I may send other homework home occasionally. Please review your child's papers and help when needed. Please remember that homework is intended as a supplement to what we are learning in class.
Book Orders
About once a month, your child will be bringing home a form to order books. If you wish to order, fill out the form and send the correct amount of money or a check to school. Books can also be ordered online. Please check the online ordering procedures attached to your child's order form. Checks should be made out to the correct book club, and all forms of payment should be placed in an envelope. This is a convenient way to buy quality children's books at low prices.
Outdoor Recess
The children will be going out for recess every day unless it is raining or extremely hot or cold. Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather.
