Curriculum
Literacy
Our school-wide literacy program is modeled after the research and work of Dr. Linda Dorn. She promotes the components of a "balanced literacy" model. The students will learn to read using books, poems, and small books called "guided reading books." Other quality children's literature will also be used. We will be working on learning to write daily using a writers workshop format. Students learn to spell by participating in a daily word work time. They will be encouraged to use phonics, spelling rules, and spelling patterns to spell words correctly.
