Classroom Rules
After discussing the reasons for rules in the classroom, we reviewed the rules and are prepared to follow them. The rules will be posted in our classroom and referred to often as each child learns to manage his/her own behavior.
Consequences For Misbehavior
1. Verbal Redirection
2. The student is moved away from the group, possibly to a "think space" in the room. They will be asked to further think about and form a solution to their problem.
3. The student is moved to another classroom or "buddy room." They will be asked to fill out a form or "think sheet." This form will help them come up with a plan and solution for their problem.
4. The student will report to the "recovery room" or principal's office. They will discuss their problem with a behavior specialist. Together, the student, teacher, and behavior specialist will work to solve the problem. If the problem is severe, it may be necessary to meet with the behavioral specialist at any time.
Rewards
I encourage good behaviors, and I give rewards to students. Some are:
1. Children earn Smarties or gum balls for setting a good example for others.
2. Positive praise, coupons, stickers, and other treats are also given at times.
3. Students earn "warm fuzzies" for using kind words with their friends.
4. A student may earn a certificate and a "gold coin." It is given once a month. It will be presented to a student who is safe, respectful, and responsible.
